NEW DESIGN – NEW LEVEL OF SAFETY

State-of-the-art fire prevention for Austria’s Wurzeralmbahn

One of the most modern funiculars in Europe is getting a new look and a fire prevention solution from WAGNER Rail to go along with it: The Wurzeralmbahn safely transports skiers and hikers to their destination at a height of 1,400 metres in the Austrian holiday region of Pyhrn-Priel.

Fire protection from WAGNER Rail

  • TITANUS MICRO·SENS®
Air sampling smoke detectors for active very early smoke detection were installed in the passenger area.

Carriage body manufacturer Carvatech GmbH designed and built the new funicular model. Operating since 1978, the Wurzeralm line has been one of the fastest and most modern in Europe since 1996 – to date.

The new train models are also expected to keep this distinction. From June 2020, the train will offer seats for up to 140 guests and a conductor. As part of the modernisation efforts, the design was also given a fresh look, transformed from bright colours to a matte black with red text.

„WAGNER Rail has an excellent reputation in the industry. We've already collaborated on an earlier project."
Michael Leithinger, Technology, Cabin Design - Systems Engineering at Carvatech

WAGNER Rail equipped the passenger area with active very early smoke detection for this reason. The TITANUS MICRO.SENS® air sampling smoke detectors detect ultra-fine pyrolysis particles early on so that countermeasures can be taken very quickly in the event of an emergency.
Linear heat detectors and point-type detectors were installed in the technology areas. The conductor platforms were also equipped with point-type detectors. An aerosol extinguishing system provides additional protection for the built-in vehicle technology.
